Alexander Zverev is on the verge of winning a long awaited Grand Slam in his career after progressing to the 2026 French Open Final.

Zverev made good on his standing as favourite to win the title by beating Jakub Mensik 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in an exciting semifinal matchup.

The 29 year old German who has competed in four Grand Slam titles, will play against Italian Fabio Cobolli in the final on Sunday, June 7.

Cobolli earned a walkover in his semifinal matchup against Matteo Arnaldi after the latter withdrew from their semifinal match to a virus.

Speaking to reporters after clinching the big win, Zverev said he was happy to get past an opponent he believed would be his “toughest challenge”.

“He [Mensik] beat so many unbelievable players and I knew it was going to be the toughest challenge I had so far. I managed, I won, and I am happy.”

“He started playing amazing in the third set. He stepped up to another level. This is a Grand Slam. Opponents are going to play better, and you have to deal with it – and I did.”
