National Teams Ambassador Asamoah Gyan has urged the Black Queens to give their best and make Ghana proud at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The tournament, rescheduled by CAF, will run from 25 July to 16 August 2026, with Ghana aiming to improve on its bronze-medal finish from the previous edition.

Gyan made the remarks during his visit to the team’s second training session at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, where the squad is stepping up preparations for the continental tournament.

Speaking to the media after observing training, the former Black Stars captain assured the players of continued support while stressing the importance of unity and motivation.

“As an ambassador for the national team, this is my job. I’ve always been very supportive of the national teams. I remember in 2014 and 2015 I told the Black Queens that if they win a tournament, I had something for them, it was about motivation.

“So for me, this role is natural. I’m here just to say hello and let them know that we, as Ghanaians, have not neglected them. We are very supportive. They should go there and make Ghana proud,” he said.

A total of 25 players, including late call-up Linda Owusu Ansah, took part in the session under head coach Kim Lars Björkegren and his technical team as preparations continue.

The squad will continue intensive training in the coming days, focusing on fitness, tactics and overall cohesion ahead of WAFCON.
