Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare is the only Ghana Premier League player named in Ghana’s 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 33-year-old is one of three goalkeepers selected by Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz. He is joined by Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Joseph Anang, with Ati-Zigi set for his second World Cup appearance after featuring at the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

Ajax Amsterdam junior team goalkeeper Paul Reverson and Hearts of Oak’s Solomon Agbasi were left out of the final squad after making the initial 28-man group.

Aside from the goalkeeping department, the only change to the squad saw veteran defender Alexander Djiku miss out through injury, with Derrick Luckassen drafted in as his replacement.

AS Monaco defender Mohammed Salisu was also omitted after failing to recover from injury, denying him the chance to feature at a second FIFA World Cup.

30-year-old Derrick Luckassen, who was born in the Netherlands to a Ghanaian parent, recently switched his international allegiance to Ghana. His maiden World Cup call-up comes after helping Pafos win the Cypriot League title this season.
