Ghana’s Deborah Acheampong has missed out on a place in the women’s 100m semi-finals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Acheampong finished third in her heat in 11.66 seconds behind Nigeria’s Olulebube Ezechukwu, who won in 11.32 seconds, and the Bahamas’ Kishawna Niles, who clocked 11.52 seconds.
With only the top two athletes in each heat qualifying automatically, Acheampong was left relying on one of the fastest non-automatic qualifying times. However, her 11.66 seconds was not enough to secure a place in the semi-finals.
England’s Imani Lansiquot posted the fastest qualifying time of 11.04 seconds. Australia’s Torrie Lewis and Singapore’s Veronica Shanti Pereira recorded the second and third fastest times respectively.
Earlier in the day, Ghana sprinters Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu booked their spots in the Men’s 100 Metre semifinals. However, Isaac Botsio couldn’t make the cut for the semifinals.
