Little over a month after South Africa’s National Men’s Football Team, Bafana Bafana’s run in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, head coach Hugo Broos’s exit has been confirmed.

Broos’ contract expires at the end of this month bringing his four year run with the team to an end that was headlined by guiding South Africa to finish third at the 2023 AFCON.

He was reportedly offered a contract extension by South Africa’s Football Association prior to his decision to not extend his deal.

The 74 year old Belgian coach also led South Africa to a first ever qualification beyond the group stage at the FIFA World Cup by guiding the Bafana Bafana to the round of 32 stage at the 2026 World Cup.

“Thank You, Coach Hugo Broos. A Grateful Nation Salutes You.:

As you step down from your role as Head Coach of Bafana Bafana, we want to pause and extend our deepest, most heartfelt gratitude for everything you have poured into South African football” a statement from the Bafana Bafana’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle read.
