Ghana’s national women’s tennis team, the Diamond Rackets, has departed for Gaborone, Botswana, for the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group III, which begins on July 13.

The tournament will feature 11 African nations competing for two promotion places to the Europe/Africa Group II in 2027.

Ghana’s squad comprises Sisu Makena Tomegah, Gwendolyn Klu, Tracy Ampah and Precious Okoh.

The Diamond Rackets will face Algeria, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Kenya, Madagascar, Namibia, Nigeria, Tunisia and Zimbabwe in the international women’s team competition.

The teams will be drawn into one group of three and two groups of four, with matches played in a two stage round robin format.

The top two nations will earn promotion to Europe/Africa Group II, while the bottom two will be relegated to Africa Group IV.

List of Sponsors for the team

Although Ghana is among the unseeded teams, the Diamond Rackets will be aiming to secure promotion after completing a week long residential training camp in Accra. The camp focused on technical, tactical, physical and mental preparation.

Head coach Bernard Ashitey Armaah believes the team is ready for the challenge.

“The residential training allowed us to work extensively on all aspects of our game without distractions. The players have trained exceptionally hard, their commitment has been outstanding, and we are optimistic they will give their very best for Ghana. We know the competition will be tough, but we are prepared to compete with determination and pride.”
