Newly signed Chelsea midfielder Morgan Rogers has stated the reason why he chose to sign for the London based club and a lot of it had to do with Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso.
Rogers said this to Chelsea media after signing for a record fee of 117 million pounds with add-ons from Aston Villa with the deal completed after Rogers featured in England’s bronze medal winning feat at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The England international starred in the 2025-2026 season that had Villa win the UEFA Europa League title with Rogers winning the Player of the Tournament Award.
“I’ve had a few conversations with him and I think it’s important for me to be here that I need to understand what the manager’s like, how he-Xabi Alonso- is and how he wants to operate.”

‘It very much fits with the way I see the game, the way I want to play, and the way I want to be me, and be free and express myself. Him being a part of that was a massive factor in me being here” Rogers said.

Alonso joined Chelsea this offseason after leaving Real Madrid.
