Portuguese midfielder Matheus Fernandes has pointed to Tottenham Hotspurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi as a key reason for joining the club.
21 year old Fernandes joined London side Tottenham on a five year deal worth 85 million pounds from fellow London side West Ham United in the wake of West Ham’s relegation from the English Premier League last season.
Fernandes became the fifth signing for Spurs this offseason in the wake of signing free agents Marcos Senesi, Andrew Robertson and Martin Dubravka and defender Jan Paul Van Hecke from Brighton and Hove Albion for 52 million pounds.
Speaking after signing his deal, Fernandes indicated that De Zerbi’s influence played a huge role in joining the club.

“I’m very excited for this next step. Spurs is a massive club and the Head Coach was a key part of why I have decided to join.”

“When we spoke, it was very special. We look at football in the same way – going onto the pitch as a strong team, with fight and energy, to try and win every game” Fernandes said to the club’s media.
