Frederick Lartey Otu has been re-elected as President of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF), securing a third term in office after defeating challenger Charles Tsibo Cromwell at the federation’s 2026 Elective Congress.

The election, held on Saturday, July 18, at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium, saw 27 delegates vote to elect a new executive board that will lead the federation for the next four years.

Otu polled 16 votes to retain the presidency, while Cromwell garnered 11 votes.

In the vice-presidential race, Maxwell Childo Alono emerged victorious with 14 votes, defeating Dr. Hamidu Abdel-Fatao, who secured 10 votes, and Mountain Prince Open, who received three votes.

Peter Wisdom and Simon Kodu were also elected as members of the federation’s executive board.

The congress marked a significant administrative milestone for Ghana Taekwondo, with the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) taking direct oversight of the electoral process by establishing independent vetting and election committees. The intervention helped resolve a prolonged governance impasse within the federation while avoiding potential legal disputes.

The election was supervised by an independent committee chaired by Lawrence Osei-Boateng Esq. with support from GOC Secretary General Mohammed Muniru Kassim Esq.

Following the declaration of results, Otu was sworn into office by the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Richard Akpokavie

As he begins his third term, the re-elected president is expected to focus on expanding grassroots taekwondo development across the country, incorporating regional associations into the federation’s constitutional framework, and strengthening Ghana’s technical representation within the international taekwondo community with the Olympic games coming up in two years
