The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially confirmed the calendar for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season, with the new campaign scheduled to begin on the weekend of September 4–7, 2026, and conclude on the weekend of May 28–31, 2027.
The approved schedule forms part of the GFA’s ongoing efforts to align Ghana’s domestic football calendar with FIFA’s international calendar for member associations, allowing for better planning, improved competitiveness and the timely completion of the season.
Following the GFA Congress on August 20, 2026, clubs will have adequate time to complete their pre-season preparations before the new campaign gets underway.
As was the case last season, the majority of Premier League fixtures will be played on weekends, with midweek dates reserved solely for outstanding matches. The arrangement is expected to provide greater fixture stability, reduce scheduling congestion and improve operational efficiency throughout the season.
Defending champions Medeama SC will begin the season aiming to retain the league title after their successful 2025/26 campaign, with several traditional powerhouses expected to challenge for the crown.
The upcoming season will also feature three newly-promoted clubs making their Premier League debuts. Debibi United, FC AshantiGold 04 and Port City FC secured promotion from the Division One League and will be hoping to establish themselves among Ghana’s elite.
The GFA believes the approved calendar will provide clubs, players, match officials, commercial partners and supporters with a well-structured and predictable season while strengthening the overall organisation of the country’s top-flight competition.
