Major League Soccer (MLS) has launched an investigation into Inter Miami over alleged tampering following the club’s signing of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.

Inter Miami announced on Wednesday that the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star had joined the club on a deal running until the end of the 2027 MLS season, with an option to extend his stay until June 2029.

However, moments after confirming the transfer, MLS revealed it was reviewing a tampering allegation involving the move.

“The league is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete,” MLS said in a statement.

The investigation centres on discovery rights, an MLS rule that grants clubs first refusal on players they have placed on their discovery list. LA Galaxy held Casemiro’s discovery rights before Inter Miami acquired them as part of the transfer process.

Both clubs confirmed they had reached a settlement over the discovery priority, but the terms of the agreement will only be disclosed once the league’s investigation is concluded.

Casemiro left Manchester United at the end of the 2026/27 season after the club opted not to renew his contract. During his time at Old Trafford, he made 160 appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists, while winning the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

The 34-year-old, a five-time UEFA Champions League winner with Real Madrid, featured for Brazil at the 2026 FIFA World Cup before making the switch to MLS.

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham welcomed the signing, describing Casemiro as “a winner” and expressing his delight that the Brazilian had chosen Miami for the next chapter of his career.

At Inter Miami, Casemiro joins a star-studded squad that includes Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, and former teammate Sergio Reguilón.
