Ghana’s Black Satellites were held to a 1-1 draw by Burkina Faso in their second Group B game at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, on Thursday, July 30.
Maxwell Konadu’s team showed resilience to secure a vital point after falling behind, with Joseph Badu finding the back of the net to restore parity in a closely contested encounter.
Both sides created opportunities in search of a winning goal after the break, but neither team could produce the decisive moment as the points were shared.
The draw leaves Ghana third in Group B with one point from two matches. The Black Satellites now need victory against Togo in their final group game, while also hoping for a favourable result from Nigeria’s meeting with Burkina Faso, to keep their semifinal hopes alive.
Attention now turns to the final group fixture, where Ghana will be aiming for a strong finish and a place in the knockout stage of the competition.
Although Ghana have already secured qualification for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations as hosts, the WAFU B tournament remains an important opportunity for the Black Satellites to gain valuable competitive experience, build team chemistry, and prepare for next year’s continental showpiece.
