The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) has rejected the proposal laid out by world football governing body, FIFA, regarding a proposed stake sale.

The proposed sale of stakes in FIFA’s biggest product, the World Cup, is being backed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and has drawn wide spread criticism from several stakeholders who argue that FIFA is selling football to the highest bidder.

Despite a potential to fetch FIFA and indirectly its associate members a windfall of $20 Billion via the sale to an investment firm that will create a subsidiary known as FIFA Forward Enterprise, the move has been met by strong resistance.

Europe’s football body, UEFA, has threatened to boycott the FIFA World Cup should the deal go through and earlier on Thursday, July 30, CONCACAF rejected the move by FIFA via a release that stated,

  • Rejected the proposal;

  • Tasked their FIFA Council Members with engaging FIFA to determine how existing vast FIFA reserves could be used to increase FIFA Forward funding for football development across our region; and

  • Tasked their FIFA Council Members with instructing the FIFA President to ensure that any matter follows the proper governance processes via staff and FIFA Council, in accordance with the FIFA Statutes.

One main reason for concern is down to the leader of the investment firm, Joshua Krushner who is the brother of Jared Krushner, who is the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump whose close relationship with Infantino hasn’t sat well with many in the football circles over happenings at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
