FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s support continues to grow following a turbulent period, with Mexico and Argentina becoming the latest countries to back his leadership.
Their support comes as UEFA maintains its opposition to Infantino following his failed attempt to sell a stake in the FIFA World Cup to private investors. Qatar, Indonesia, the Philippines, and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have also expressed support for Infantino.
The Argentine Football Association and Mexican Football Federation are the latest national football bodies to publicly reaffirm their backing for the FIFA president.
“The FMF (Mexican Federation) supports President Infantino’s leadership in continuing to promote the development of football through institutional strengthening” a section of Mexico’s Federation said.
The Argentine FA on the other hand, commended Infantino for a “profound transformation of FIFA; that has opened the doors of the organisation to all member associations and confederations.”
Gianni Infantino is in the running to be re-elected as FIFA President next year.
