Black Stars legend Michael Essien believes Caleb Yirenkyi’s dedication will help him achieve greater success following his move to the English Premier League.
Essien made the comments in a post on X while reacting to Yirenkyi’s move to newly promoted Coventry City this offseason.
The 20-year-old midfielder joined Coventry on a five-year deal for a club record $30 million fee from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland.
Caleb Yirenkyi impressed during his two seasons at Nordsjaelland after joining from the Right to Dream Academy, and carried that form into his debut FIFA World Cup campaign earlier this year.
Essien, who worked with Yirenkyi as an assistant coach at Nordsjaelland, expressed confidence that the midfielder will succeed at Coventry.

“Your hardwork, dedication, attitude and willingness to learn will continue to push you to greater heights. Stay humble, discipline, respectful and keep working hard. Wishing you all the best” Essien wrote.

Coventry City commence their 2026-2027 season with a clash against EPL champions Arsenal on Friday, August 21.
