Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick as Manchester United came from behind to beat Ipswich Town 5-2 at Old Trafford in a thrilling Premier League encounter.

Ipswich stunned the home crowd in the 29th minute when Leif Davis opened the scoring. Abdul Fatawu Issahaku produced excellent work on the left, driving into the box before dragging the ball back for Davis, who calmly side-footed into the net.

Davis almost doubled Ipswich’s advantage three minutes later, but his effort was kept out by United goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

Manchester United eventually found their response through captain Fernandes in the 40th minute. Matheus Cunha capitalised on a mistake and slipped the ball through to Fernandes, who produced a powerful left-footed finish from a tight angle to make it 1-1.

United came out strongly after the break and completed the turnaround in the 56th minute. Harry Maguire burst into the box and drilled a low ball towards the back post, with the effort eventually going in off an Ipswich player for an own goal.

The hosts were awarded a penalty in the 59th minute after Kobbie Mainoo put Cunha through and the Brazilian was brought down inside the box.

Fernandes stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, giving United a 3-1 lead in the 61st minute.

The Portuguese completed his hat-trick seven minutes later. A blocked Mainoo effort fell to Bryan Mbeumo, whose shot took a deflection before Fernandes reacted quickest to slot the ball home and make it 4-1.

United continued to dominate and added a fifth in the 82nd minute through Mbeumo.

The goal came after a flowing move involving Diogo Dalot, Amad Diallo and Fernandes, with the captain setting Mbeumo through. The Cameroon international lifted a clever lob from outside the box which bounced off the underside of the crossbar before crossing the line.

The second goal scored by Ipswich Town came deep into stoppage time at the end of the match (90+1′), when substitute forward Chuba Akpom scored a late consolation goal.

The late goal, however, proved little more than consolation as Manchester United held on for a 5-2 victory.

The result capped a dramatic afternoon at Old Trafford, with United recovering from a first-half deficit to secure all three points, while Fernandes’ three goals proved decisive.
