The Ghana Tennis Federation, under the auspices of its Wheelchair Tennis Committee, organised the 2026 National Wheelchair Tennis Juniors Training Camp at the Accra Sports Stadium Tennis Court on Friday, 28th August 2026.
The camp introduced a new cohort of junior players, all beginners in wheelchair tennis, ranging in age from 8 to 14 years. Notably, girls made up approximately 45 per cent of participants, a strong indication of progress towards closing the gender gap in wheelchair tennis. The young players travelled from Ho, Cape Coast, Koforidua and Accra, accompanied by their local coaches, who worked alongside the national coaches to deliver the training.
Ghana’s leading professional wheelchair tennis players, including Maclean Dzidzienyo, Bernard Yawson, Bridget Nartey, Stacy Konadu Mensah and Daniel Laryea, were on hand to demonstrate skills and inspire the young participants to embrace the sport.
All new players have since been registered, and a wheelchair tennis development pathway has been established to guide their progress, with the aim of nurturing them into future professionals in the mould of Emmanuel Amobire and Henry Adjapong, both of whom have successfully transitioned from junior to senior wheelchair tennis.
President of the Ghana Tennis Federation, Isaac Abe Duah, and Vice President, Cedric Dzelu, were present at the event to encourage the young players and reaffirm the Federation’s continued commitment to the development and promotion of wheelchair tennis in Ghana.
Ghana’s Wheelchair Tennis National Coordinator, Henry Larbi, commended the World Tennis for its sustained support since 2013 towards the development and promotion of wheelchair tennis in collaboration with the Ghana Tennis Federation.
“We believe we will get junior players who can represent Ghana internationally from 2027,” he said.
