Defending US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz’s participation in this year’s tournament is in serious doubt after withdrawing from another event.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion has pulled out of the Cincinnati Open as he continues to recover from a wrist injury.
The injury also ruled him out of Wimbledon, raising fresh concerns over his fitness ahead of the US Open. However, Cincinnati Open director Bob Moran said Alcaraz is working hard to return to action as soon as possible.
“We know Carlos is doing everything he can to get back to playing tournaments as soon as possible” Cincinnati tournament director Bob Moran said.
Alcaraz is a two time winner of the US Open and his absence could open the door for his biggest rival Jannik Sinner to clinch another title.
