Ghana’s national Armwrestling team, the Golden Arms, will represent the country at the World Armwrestling Championship scheduled for October 26 to November 7, 2026, in New Delhi, India, as the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) steps up preparations for another major international assignment.
The championship, organised under the auspices of the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF), is expected to attract about 1,500 of the world’s leading Armwrestlers, providing the Golden Arms with the opportunity to compete against some of the strongest and most technically accomplished pullers from across the globe.
The Golden Arms will enter the competition with a team of 9 pullers with growing confidence following Ghana’s impressive showing at the 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship in Accra, where the country demonstrated its strength and depth in the sport.
The team will feature some of Ghana’s most accomplished pullers, including world champion Grace Minta, world championship medalists Mabel Yeboah and Blessed Abeka Nunoo, and African champion Daniel Acquah. They bring a combination of world-class experience, continental success and emerging talent as Ghana seeks to make another strong statement on the international stage.
As part of preparations for the New Delhi championship, the Golden Arms will commence a national camping programme to bring together selected athletes for intensive preparation.
The camp will focus on physical conditioning, strength development, technical and tactical work, recovery, discipline and mental preparation ahead of the championship.
The camping programme will also provide the technical team led by coaches Husseini Akueteh Addy and Nii Otu Larkyne with an opportunity to assess the athletes and fine-tune the final squad for the various weight categories.
Particular attention will be given to international competition standards, as the Ghanaian team seeks to translate its continental dominance into strong performances against the world’s best.
President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Charles Osei Asibey, has reiterated the Federation’s commitment to providing Ghanaian athletes with regular opportunities to compete at the highest level.
The World Championship forms part of the Federation’s broader strategy of developing elite athletes capable of winning medals at continental and global competitions.
The New Delhi championship will therefore serve as both a medal opportunity and an important test of Ghana’s progress in Armwrestling. Beyond the quest for podium finishes, participation will expose the Golden Arms to different techniques, styles and levels of competition, while providing valuable experience for the athletes and technical team.
The Ghana Armwrestling Federation calls on corporate and state institutions for travel support with preparations now gathering momentum and camping set to commence ahead of the October championship in New Delhi. The team’s objective will be in the 2026 World Armwrestling Championship is to compete strongly, challenge for medals and further establish Ghana as a force to be reckoned with in world armwrestling.
