Ghana has been confirmed as the host nation for the 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship, scheduled to take place in Accra from April 29 to May 3, 2026.

The announcement was made by the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA), which revealed that the championship has been moved from its traditional July window to earlier in the year.

The 2026 edition will also serve as the qualification tournament for the armwrestling competition at the 2027 African Games, raising the stakes for participating nations.

AFA Secretary Julien Boumsong confirmed the decision and called on all member federations to begin preparations ahead of the continental event, which is expected to attract Africa’s top armwrestlers.

President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation and Armwrestling Federation of Africa, as well as Vice President of the World Armwrestling Federation, Charles Osei Asibey, assured stakeholders of a top-class championship.

“We are doing everything possible to make sure this championship will be a very wonderful event,” Asibey said. “As hosts, Ghana is ready to showcase not only its organisational capacity but also the best of African armwrestling to the world.”

Further details regarding registration, competition regulations, and accommodation arrangements for participating teams will be communicated by the organisers in the coming weeks.

With the championship doubling as a qualifier for the African Games, the Accra event is expected to be one of the most competitive editions in the history of African armwrestling.
