Harry Kane says his desire to return to England and chase Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record has diminished since moving to Bayern Munich.
Kane left Tottenham for Bayern in 2023 after scoring 213 goals in the Premier League, leaving him 47 goals short of Shearer’s record of 260.
The England captain has since enjoyed a prolific spell in Germany, scoring 61 goals in 51 appearances last season as Bayern completed a domestic league and cup double.
Despite having entered the final year of his four-year contract, Kane says he is settled in Munich and is preparing to discuss a possible new deal with the German champions.
“When I first left, for sure it was something I thought – I would definitely be coming back. That itch isn’t there as much anymore,” Kane said.
“I am extremely happy here in Munich. It opened my eyes to a totally different world of football outside of England and it has made me appreciate European football even more.”
Kane, who received the Bundesliga Golden Shoe after finishing as the league’s top scorer, said his family’s happiness in Germany is also an important factor.
“I just think the team we have here and the manager, my family is really settled here, it is just about being in the best place possible,” he added.
“Never say never, but for now I am concentrating on Bayern Munich and we will see what the future holds.”
The 32-year-old also credited Bayern manager Vincent Kompany with helping him reach what he considers the best level of his career.
“I think this is the best version of myself for sure,” Kane said.
“I think last season speaks for itself, from that sense the best season in my career no doubt.”
Kane said Kompany’s attacking approach and the freedom given to players has helped elevate his performances since the former Manchester City defender took charge in 2024.
