Chairman of the Accra Turf Club Frederick Nuer has stated that some individuals are trying to destroy and kill horse racing in Ghana.
He made this statement in his address delivered at a press briefing in the wake of the alleged forceful takeover and demolition of the Accra Race Course at Borteyman. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
In a statement release from the Accra Turf Club, a group of 200 individuals allegedly under the supervision of Police Officer DSP Malaika, forced their way into the Race Course at Borteyman and destroyed several properties at the facility including 100 horse stables.
Speaking at the presser in the presence of Board Secretary of the Accra Turf Club, Sam Newton, Frederick Nuer stated,
“Obviously, there are people who are trying to destroy and kill horse racing; we are not going to allow that to continue today or tomorrow. Horse-racing in Ghana started over 100 years ago in this country.”
“You cannot destroy that because somebody wants to develop the land now that land is prime. Ghana is not for rich people alone…we will not allow any of these things to continue.”
“We are calling on the President [of Ghana John Dramani Mahama] to intervene in this matter. What we are calling on is that justice should prevail in this matter.”
