Sunderland will return to European competition for the first time since 1973 with a daunting trip to the San Siro to face seven-time European champions AC Milan in the Europa League.

The Black Cats, who finished seventh in the Premier League last season, will play eight matches in the league phase, including the high-profile meeting with Milan in Italy.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, have also been drawn against AC Milan, but the Cherries will host the Italian giants at home.

The club will be competing in Europe for the first time and have also been handed a trip to Spain to face Real Sociedad.

Crystal Palace face arguably the toughest schedule of the three English clubs.

The Conference League winners will meet Real Sociedad, Lyon and Besiktas during the league phase, alongside fixtures against Sparta Praha, Salzburg, Lech Poznan, Jagiellonia and Hoffenheim.

It will be Palace’s first appearance in the Europa League after they were demoted from the competition last July for breaching UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules.

Celtic face Marseille, Benfica and Besiktas

Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have also been given a challenging Europa League campaign.

The Glasgow club will face Marseille at home and travel to Portugal to meet Benfica, while Besiktas are among their other opponents.

Celtic dropped into the Europa League after surrendering a four-goal advantage against LASK in their Champions League play-off tie earlier this week.

Their remaining opponents are Ferencvaros, Union SG, Celta Vigo, Omonia and Torreense.

Brighton and Hearts learn Conference League opponents

In the Conference League, Brighton have been drawn against Monaco and Getafe, as well as Panathinaikos, Craiova, Kauno Zalgiris and Jablonec.

Hearts will also face Monaco and have been handed an away trip to Turkey to take on Mohamed Salah’s Trabzonspor.

Their other opponents are Pafos, Borac, Nordsjaelland and Thun.

The Europa League final will be played in Frankfurt on 26 May, 2027, while the Conference League final will take place in Istanbul six days later.
