The Minority in Parliament is demanding a detailed breakdown of the reported GH¢58 million spent on Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The demand follows Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams’ briefing to Parliament’s Youth, Sports and Culture Committee on the expenditure.
The Minority wants the government to publish a line-by-line account covering flights, accommodation, internal transportation, laundry, training camps, logistics, catering, security, tickets and other operational costs.
It is also demanding a full account of all FIFA-related funds received for the World Cup, including payments for preparations and the tournament.
The Minority further wants a complete reconciliation of corporate and private contributions received for the Black Stars campaign, together with details of how the funds were used.
Ranking Member of the Youth, Sports and Culture Committee Vincent Ekow Assafuah said the Minister’s briefing should be followed by greater detail on individual expenditure items.
“Where is the detailed breakdown of the expenditure on flights, accommodation, internal transportation, laundry, training camps, logistics, catering, security, tickets and other operational expenses?” he asked.
He also pointed to figures contained in a reported draft budget by the Ghana Football Association, which allocated US$15,000 for laundry and US$38,000 for internal transportation.
“What was actually spent? Who provided these services? What contracts were signed? What were the applicable rates? And what amounts were ultimately paid?” he asked.
Mr Assafuah said the call for transparency should cover all aspects of the Black Stars’ World Cup expenditure, not only payments that have already been accounted for.
“If the Government has accounted for the appearance fees, honoraria and per diems, then we are asking for the same level of transparency for every other expenditure incurred during the campaign,” he said.
