Black Stars vice-captain Thomas Partey has been omitted from Ghana’s latest squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, as well as the international friendly against Morocco.

Head coach Carlos Queiroz named his 24-man squad on Friday, September 18, with Partey a notable absentee.

The Al-Shabab midfielder is currently dealing with medical concerns and is scheduled to undergo further tests in the coming days to assess his condition.

Partey also missed Al-Shabab’s recent fixture, with the reason for his absence not immediately disclosed.

His latest omission comes after a turbulent period for the experienced midfielder, who also missed Ghana’s opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Panama in June after being unable to secure a Canadian visa amid ongoing legal proceedings in the United Kingdom.

Thomas Partey training

Partey has been an important figure for the Black Stars in recent years and serves as the team’s vice-captain.

His absence will therefore be a significant change to Queiroz’s midfield options as Ghana begin their preparations for the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.

The Black Stars face Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday, September 24, before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 29.

Thomas Partey in action

Ghana will then travel to Morocco for an international friendly against the Atlas Lions on Sunday, October 4.

For now, Partey’s return to the national team will depend on the outcome of his medical assessments and his recovery in the coming weeks.
