Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson says his team has recovered mentally and is ready to respond against South Korea in their crucial second Group C match at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Ghana suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Ecuador in their opening game, leaving them bottom of Group C without a point.

Ecuador lead the group with three points, while South Korea and France have one point each after drawing their opening fixture.

Despite the setback, Coach Sampson says his players have put the defeat behind them and are determined to bounce back.

“The first game was actually a very weird game. What we normally do with ease was not really working, and there could be so many factors, making it difficult to pinpoint.

“But as a team, and with the sort of character we have, this is a challenge that we will handle well. The girls were all down, just like myself, but we have shaken it off, and now we are ready to go and redeem ourselves.

“We are looking forward to tomorrow,” Sampson said.

Ghana are making a record eighth consecutive appearance at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup but have never progressed beyond the group stage.

The Black Princesses need a positive result against South Korea to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.

They have also received a boost with defender Margaret Agyapomaa available for selection after serving her suspension for the red card she received in Ghana’s final qualifier against Uganda.

Ghana face South Korea on Wednesday, September 9, with kick-off at 13:00 GMT.
