Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is confident the young players in the team will perform well in Ghana’s clash against Côte d’Ivoire.
The Black Stars take on the Elephants in Bouake, in a 2027 AFCON qualifier on Thursday, September 24; the clash is the first for Ghana following Carlos Queiroz’s re-appointment as Black Stars head coach following his run with the team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on a short term contract.
Ghana heads into the tie with serious concerns after seven key players including Antoine Semenyo, Jordan Ayew and Mohammed Kudus withdrew from the team to injuries.
On the other hand, young players like Augustine Boakye, Rahim Ibrahim and Mohammed Fuseini are expected to play a larger role.
“There is always a generation of players to renew, to refresh [the team]…we have a couple of great potential, great talented players. They are full of enthusiasm, they are looking for an opportunity to shine, to serve the national team and they are going to be alright.”
“I am sure that with the talent that they have, they can give a good contribution to the team” Queiroz said at a pre-game presser.
