Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen has had his contract with German Bundesliga 2 side VfL Wolfsburg terminated by mutual consent.
Wolfsburg announced the decision on Wednesday, September 23, with Eriksen’s contract originally set to run until June 2027.
The former Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United midfielder leaves the club after making 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing 10 assists. His departure comes after he collapsed during an international friendly in June.
Eriksen also suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 match against Finland in 2021 before returning to professional football.
“It is important for me to be close to my family in Denmark. I’m pleased that we were able to find a solution together. My time in Wolfsburg was marked by many highs and lows.”
“I know that the club is now in good hands as it aims to make its way back to the Bundesliga, and I am convinced that a successful future lies ahead for VfL” Eriksen said in a statement.
