Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko remains confident his side can overturn their 1-0 deficit against TP Mazembe in the second leg of their CAF Champions League tie.
Medeama suffered a late defeat to the Congolese giants at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa, with Nyembo Ntumba scoring in the 87th minute.
The Ghanaian champions returned to Africa’s elite club competition after winning the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title but were unable to make their home advantage count despite creating several opportunities.
Tanko admitted his disappointment with the result but believes Medeama still have a chance to turn the tie around in the return leg.
“If you lose a home game, definitely you will be disappointed. The good thing is that we created a lot of chances which we could have scored some goals but unfortunately, we couldn’t. Definitely, I’m disappointed but we have a second chance next Sunday to see what will happen,” Tanko said.
Medeama will travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo for the second leg on Saturday, September 12, needing to score at least twice to progress to the next round.
Medeama are Ghana’s sole representatives in the CAF Champions League.
