Kumasi Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler admits his side did not do enough to secure victory against Debibi United in their opening game of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
The Porcupine Warriors were held to a 2-2 draw by the league debutants after surrendering a lead and needing a late equaliser to rescue a point.
Yakubu Dogo put Kotoko ahead in the 14th minute, but Debibi United scored twice before midfielder Hubert Gyau levelled the game in the 80th minute.
Speaking after his first GPL game since taking charge of Kotoko in the offseason, Tinkler criticised his team’s defending and ball retention.
“Ultimately, I don’t think we’ve done enough to want to win this game. The performance itself, I’m not entirely happy with how we conceded the goals. We knew exactly where the threat came from and we allowed the goals that we conceded.
“On the ball today, we were poor, very, very poor. Not good enough in terms of our composure on the ball. We kept giving the ball away and made it very difficult for ourselves.”
