England winger Anthony Gordon strongly believes the Three Lions would have beaten Spain had striker Harry Kane converted his penalty attempt against the reigning FIFA World Champions.
Thomas Tuchel’s England lost 3-2 at home to Spain in a UEFA Nations League tie on Saturday, September 26 despite mounting a serious comeback attempt after conceding a Lamine Yamal goal in the second minute.
Goals from Gordon and Kane in the first half, put England up 2-1 but Kane failed to improve his and England’s tally after he smashed his penalty attempt against the cross bar.
Replay of the miss showed Kane’s supporting foot slipping off the surface rendering him imbalanced while striking the ball.
Spain scored six minutes later through Alex Baena who set up Mikel Oyarzabal for Spain’s third goal.
“I think so, I think it-a converted Kane penalty- put us in a great position to go and get more. We were hungry for more.”
“We came out for the throat, for the kill, and we did that. Penalties happen. He never really misses so we’ll let him off with that one” Gordon said to ITV Sport.
