Manchester City chairman says club remains confident of proving innocence
Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak says the club remains confident it can prove its innocence as the Premier League’s financial rules process continues.
Al Mubarak said the legal process still had “a long way to run” following media reports on Friday, while stressing that City’s position had not changed.
“The Premier League process still has a long way to run, and our confidence and intent in proving the Club’s innocence is just as strong as when this began,” he said in a letter to supporters.
City said on Friday that the Premier League process remained ongoing, with significant elements still to be completed and subject to strict confidentiality.
The club also reiterated its position from February 2023, when it said it was surprised by the alleged breaches of Premier League rules and welcomed an independent commission to review the case.
Al Mubarak said City could not provide supporters with more details because of the confidentiality surrounding the legal proceedings.
He urged fans to read the club’s latest statement and its February 2023 response, saying: “Every word matters and holds true.”
The chairman also acknowledged the scrutiny surrounding the club but said City had faced challenges before and would continue to rely on the support of its fans.
City have been involved in the Premier League process for eight years, with the club maintaining that it has respected due process and expected the league to act as an independent and impartial regulator.
The case centres on alleged breaches of Premier League rules, but City have consistently denied wrongdoing and said there is extensive evidence supporting their position.
Al Mubarak ended his letter by looking ahead to City’s upcoming fixtures, including a trip to Anfield and a Champions League meeting with Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad Stadium.
