World No. 8 Ben Shelton is one win away from his first Grand Slam title after reaching the 2026 US Open final with a comeback win over fellow American Frances Tiafoe.
Shelton recovered from a set down to beat Tiafoe 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 in the all-American semifinal at Flushing Meadows on Friday, September 11.
The 23-year-old will face Germany’s Alexander Zverev on Sunday, September 13, with a chance to become the first American man to win a Grand Slam singles title since Andy Roddick in 2003.
Shelton is also bidding to become the first African-American man to win the US Open since Arthur Ashe in 1968.
“I think these moments I want to cherish, I don’t want to take lightly. But at the same time, it’s very business-like the way I’ve been going about it.”
“The nerves are always there. It’s something you’ve got to be able to overcome, but I’m having fun, you know? “
“I’m playing against the number one seed, playing against a Grand Slam champion trying to get my first. It’s a lot of reasons that this is an enjoyable moment for me” Shelton said after beating Tiafoe.
