Philadelphia 76ers new signing LeBron James has backed the team’s title ambitions after joining the franchise in a major offseason move.
The soon-to-be 42-year-old left the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent and signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the Sixers.
James will team up with All-Stars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, as well as fellow offseason signing Jaylen Brown, for the 2026-27 season.
The arrival of James and Brown has raised expectations around a Sixers team that reached the playoffs last season and has not won an NBA title since 1983. James has embraced those expectations and believes Philadelphia can challenge for the championship.
“In order for us to be great, we have to do things that are just not comfortable. We have to be comfortable being uncomfortable. That is the best way to expedite being great.”
“If we don’t do that, then we’ll be like, ‘Oh, man, it was a great team on paper, and we had a lot of great talent, and we lost in the second round.”
“I don’t want to do that. I didn’t leave my family to lose in the second round. I know that for sure” LeBron said to the media.
