France forward Kylian Mbappe moved into the top five spots in the UEFA Champions League all-time list but received a hostile reception from Real Madrid fans at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Despite scoring in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Inter Milan, Mbappe was booed by Real Madrid fans when he got substituted late in the opening game of the 2026-2027 season.
Mbappe’s goal in the first half, moved him to fifth all time in the competition’s history on 71 goals to tie Real Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez’s mark.
The French man’s feat is more impressive considering he reached this mark in 99 games while Raul reached this mark in 142 games.
Mbappe’s goal came on the back of his latest nomination for the Ballon d’Or Men’s Player of the Year Award.
Mbappe ended the 2025-2026 season as the top scorer in the Spanish La Liga, UEFA Champions League and 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Reacting to the boos, Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho said, “I don’t comment on the crowd’s reactions.”
