For the second time in as many games, Alexander Zverev registered a marathon win in the 2026 US Open at Flashing Meadows.
The world number two ranked player scored a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 win over Quentin Halys in the second round in over four hours.
Zverev progressed to the third round of the competition on the back of playing a combined period of nine hours.
In the first round, the 2026 French Open champion battled past Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 7-5,6-4 in another grueling matchup.
Speaking after getting past Halys, Zverev brushed aside any concerns about his health after staying on the court for long hours.

“Physically, I feel fine. I’m proud, I think, to be physically quite strong. So, yeah, I hope at some point I’ll start playing better tennis”.

“I said it last year, New York has always been difficult for me. Just the conditions. .” It’s also a skill to win ugly and when you’re not playing great tennis” he said.
