Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has bemoaned his team’s inability to close out its game against EFL League Two side Fleetwood Town Football Club that cost the Gunners the chance to progress to the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup.
Arsenal crashed out of the competition in the fourth round after losing 5-3 on penalties to Fleetwood after the game ended 1-1 at the end of regulation. Arsenal teenager Max Dowman got sent off in the 85th minute for retaliation.
Bruno Guimarães had his penalty attempt saved by Fleetwood goalkeeper Jay Lynch setting up the grand finish for Fleetwood to book their place in the quarterfinals. Speaking to Sky Sports, Arteta was disappointed his team couldn’t get the job done.

“First of all, congratulations to Fleetwood for going through in the next round, in the manner they’ve done it, the atmosphere they have created, and, yeah, a really sad day for us.”

“I cannot fault at all the attitude of the players. I haven’t seen anyone not doing what is required at this level.”

“This football, that’s the beauty as well of this competition, and, especially in this country, it’s a very sad day” Arteta said.
