Former New York Knicks player Carmelo Anthony has backed the team’s decision to suspend contract talks with several players, including All-Star centre Karl-Anthony Towns.
Speaking as an analyst on NBC Sports, the three-time Olympic gold medallist supported the Knicks’ decision to halt talks after the two sides failed to agree on an extension. Towns reportedly sought a four-year, $267 million deal, while the Knicks offered a four-year contract worth $200 million.
The $67 million gap reportedly stalled negotiations, with the team also remaining quiet on contract talks with Josh Hart and Miles McBride.
“I think it was big for them to stop the conversations, and just, we’ll get to that. We’ll get to that at the end of the season but whatever’s going to happen is going to happen but right now, let the be all, be the be all, which is basketball.”

“ Let’s go defend this championship and I think both parties understand” Anthony said.

The Knicks head into the 2026-2027 season as NBA Champions after winning the franchise’s first title in 53 years last season.
