Luka Doncic says it is an honour to lead the Los Angeles Lakers after inspiring the team to a 127-105 win over the Golden State Warriors in their 2026-27 season opener.
The Lakers played their first game without LeBron James in eight years following the veteran forward’s departure in the offseason.
Doncic led the way with 28 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in 30 minutes as the Lakers secured a comfortable victory over a Warriors side missing Kristaps Porzingis, Jimmy Butler and Brandin Podziemski.
Speaking after the game, Doncic expressed confidence that the Lakers could improve further as the season progresses.
“It’s a lot of honor to be the face of the franchise. That’s just the first game. I think our ceiling is even higher. When I was driving, [Walker Kessler] stepped up.”

“When I was doubled, he played in the pocket. Very impressive game from him” Doncic said after the win.

Walker Kessler, who joined the Lakers this offseason on a four-year, $130 million deal, registered 26 points and nine rebounds in 30 minutes in his debut game.
