Lawyer for the embattled National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Jerry Avenorgbor, has insisted that his client is innocent of the visa scandal surrounding the NSA.
Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Avenorgbor said Ampofo Ankrah has no involvement in an alleged visa facilitation scheme linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, reportedly involving $600,000.
His comments come after President John Dramani Mahama asked Ampofo Ankrah to step aside as NSA Director-General on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
Avenorgbor also clarified that Ampofo Ankrah is being investigated by the Economic Crime Unit of the Ghana Police Service, not the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
“There are multiple sides to this story. The truth is my client has not seen, heard, gotten close to…there is nothing like that that my client has done. It is impossible for this to even happen in an institution like this. I do not where all these things are coming from.”

“I believe with investigations, everything will be revealed. There’s been a detailed investigation on going as we speak. Investigations will reveal the pure truth behind what is happening. There are attempts to denigrate the reputation of my client which is held high.”

“Everything that is being peddled is untruthful. My client has not met any human being and collected money. These are falsities” Jerry Avenorgbor said.
