Diafo pleads with GOC to invest in preparations for future competitions

Ghanaian youth sprinter Solomon Diafo has appealed to the Ghana Olympic Committee to invest in preparations in future competitions.

Ghana’s last medal hopeful at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Solomon Diafo failed to secure a medal in the final of the men’s 400m on Sunday.

The 17 year old finished eighth despite a decent showing in the heats and the second stage where he finished 3rd and 6th respectively.

Per the competition rules, athletes run in two stages of four heats each, following which they are ranked according to the best of time finish after a collation of results from all heats.

The locally based athlete was crestfallen after the race and stressed on the need to invest more in the preparations leading up to such competitions to ensure better results in the future.

“I need the [GOC officials] to get good preparations for me. Some of my friends from outside had been training in Brazil since the end of the African Games.

“They went for training tours and things like that, but in Ghana you are forced to train on your own. So I need help to go outside to train so I can win medals for Ghana,” he said.

“I hope the elderly men will not forget me, but take me outside to train so that in 2020 Olympic Games I can win a medal for Ghana.”
