The Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) has named a 20-man squad ahead of Sunday’s game against the President XIII select side on September 26, 2021.

The selection was made after a three-game test series between Giwa-McNeil XIII and Safi XIII in the just ended Origins Cup, held at the Mensah Sarbah field of the University of Ghana. Players were selected based on their performance over the three games which started on September 5.

“With help from Sports Elite, we selected players based on strength, power, skills, tackles completed, knowledge of the game, tackle breaks, and discipline”, technical head (RLFG) ,Marshall Nortey said.

National team coach, Andy Gilvary expressed his excitement with the development and future of the women and men rugby league in Ghana; “it is fantastic to see the development in both men and women’s rugby league in Ghana and hopefully in a couple of years we’ll see both play in a high level international tournament”.

He further threw light on the national team as they prepare for the Middle East Africa Rugby League tournament in 2022; “we will start training this thursday towards the Middle East Africa Rugby League champion next year, on the international level, when we start playing other African nations, our aim is to beat the number one team in Africa, and in the next five to ten years we fly up the world ranking.”
