New Century Technical Institute imposed itself and showed dominance in all facets of the sports disciplines as they came atop in the 2023 Zone 1 Interschool Competition for Technical and Vocational Education and Training schools.

The eight schools were Accra Technical Training Center (ATTC), New Century Technical Institute, Ngleshie Amanfro Technical Institute, South Labone Technical Institute, Kanda Technical Institute, Sacred Heart Technical Institute, Government Technical Institute and Nima Technical Institute.

They locked horns for the bragging rights at stake.

With eight TVET schools battling for supremacy, New Century Technical Institute from Dansoman came tops in both the boys and girls divisions claiming first positions in six sporting disciplines and a podium finishes for other fields.

In a charged atmosphere at El Wak, New Century first claimed gold in the boy’s basketball competition followed by Sacred Heart and ATTC with Sacred Heart winning the girl’s division.

New Century then won the boy’s volleyball competition with the ladies doing the same.

In the football competition, New Century showed no sign of fatigue or pain as they tore apart every school that came their way.

In the boy’s final, New Century kept their nerve as they were taken to penalties by a dynamic Ngleshie Amanfrom side after 0-0 score in regular time before winning 4-3 on penalties.

New Century Technical Institute also easily dispatched Kanda Technical Institute 3-0 to claim the top finish.

ATTC however dominated the track and field events but was not enough to claim the prize as the best overall school.

Speaking to Citi Sports, the Chairman of Zone 1 Sporting Festival for TVET schools, Mr Ako Dometi shared his views on the impact of the games on the students.

“These games are important to the students because It forms part of their training and sports as we know is important to the development of young people. It helps build character, and it is also a way of healthy living,” he said.

“These students have shown high-level performances in the various sporting disciplines and have shown their talents well and so hopefully, we will get national heroes from these lots,” Mr Dometi added.
