Black Stars midfielder, Salis Samed has extended his stay at RC Lens after signing a five-year deal with the French Ligue 1 side on the back of an outstanding season.

Samed helped Lens qualify to next season’s UEFA Champions League via a second place finish in the league, behind champions Paris Saint-Germain.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder scored a goal and assisted a goal in 33 league appearances, in a campaign that had him named the Get French Football News best midfielder and get nominated for the Marc Vivien Foe award.

The award is given to the best African player in the French league and this year’s edition was won by DR Congo and Olympique defender Chancel Mbemba. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Speaking to tabloid GFFN, Lens General Director Arnaud Pouille said,

“We begin this summer transfer window with the extension of a key player in our team, both in terms of performance and spirit: Salis Abdul Samed. Beyond his emergence at the highest level, beyond his impressive performance at the World Cup with Ghana, beyond his consistency, he embodies the joy of this group and is one of the leaders in terms of commitment and festive character.

Extending Salis’s contract was a no-brainer. It is a symbol that illustrates our approach of starting with continuity. Congratulations, Salis, and we look forward to seeing you compete in continental competitions!”

Samed is expected to feature in the Black Stars’ 2023 AFCON qualifier against Madagascar on June 18.
