King Faisal withdraws application for court injunction against GFA

Reports reaching Citi Sports indicate King Faisal Football Club, through its counsel, has withdrawn an application for an injunction in relation to the recently held 2023 Ghana Football Association (GFA) Elections.

The hearing of the application was due today at an Accra High Court but the application was withdrawn leaving the judge to strike out the application.

In the lead up to the elections, King Faisal communicated that the team will apply for the injunction to prevent the GFA Elections from taking place in order to resolve King Faisal’s petition to restructure the election road map from a top to bottom system to a bottom to top system.

This would have meant district and regional football executives got elected first before national executives got elected in the GFA Elections.

The application was one of the reasons behind the GFA’s rescheduling the elections from September 27 to October 5 in Tamale.

Incumbent GFA President Kurt Okraku retained his seat for another four-year term while members of the GFA’s Executive Council were also elected on October 5.

A similar application for a court injunction move has been made by the camp of disqualified 2023 GFA Elections Presidential aspirant George Afriyie, who is challenging his disqualification from the race.
