Deputy Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Abdul Bawa Majeed, has indicated that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo should have made substitutions earlier than he did against Angola.

Ghana lost 1-0 to Angola in the opening game of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers for either team at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Otto Addo made his first substitution in the 82nd minute by replacing Fatawu Issahaku and Elisha Owusu with Joseph Paintsil and Majeed Ashimeru.

After playing down the impact of the much maligned Baba Yara Stadium pitch on the Black Stars performance in an interview with Asempa FM, Bawa Majeed indicated that Otto Addo’s failure to make early substitutions played a role in Ghana’s loss to Angola. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

“We follow football and we understand football. We all suspected, we all wanted, even the fans themselves were agitating for change. In the 60th minute, if you were watching on tele or you were at the stadium you would see the signs, they were doing the signs and shouting changes, changes, changes.”
