Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council Member, Dr. Ransford Abbey, has defended remuneration for members of the Black Stars Management Committee. His tone was similar to that of GFA President Kurt Okraku. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Dr. Abbey made his defence at a Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Culture and Tourism hearing when the GFA was called on for questioning over football related matters in the country.

The CEO of Ghana Premier League side Kpando Heart of Lions, made this statement in the presence of GFA President Kurt Okraku, GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo and other members of the GFA Executive Council.

Members of the Black Stars Management Committee reportedly received $100,000 each when Ghana competed at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and former GFA Technical Director Francis Oti Akenteng clearly disagreed with this high level of remuneration but Dr. Abbey stated the opposite. “People hold people responsible when there’s failure. Why must these people not be recognized when there is success? If you think that it is okay to hold people responsible when there is failure, why must you not see it as okay to reward those people when there is success?”

GFA President Kurt Okraku

The Black Stars Management Committee was also present when Ghana went to the 2023 AFCON that had Ghana’s contingent spend three million dollars despite crashing out of the tournament at the group stage.
