Veteran coach Francis Oti Akenteng says he doesn’t support the huge rewards given to members of the Black Stars Management Committee.
He said this when he appeared before a Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Culture and Tourism to address issues on football in Ghana.
His appearance came on Day Three of the Committee’s sitting after Day One had Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif make an appearance and Day Two had the National Sports Authority (NSA) appear before the Committee.
At his hearing, Honourable Ussif stated that Ghana’s contingent at the 2023 AFCON spent three million dollars despite Ghana crashing out of the tournament at the group stage. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
Each Member of the Black Stars Management Committee reportedly received a reward of $100,000 during Ghana’s campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and Oti Akenteng believes that such an amount if true, is quite high.
“If you look at some of their roles, it’s not bad except that you cannot be paying everybody like we are hearing, like I’m hearing that some people took $100,000 for being a member of the management committee. Probably the person attended meeting once or twice but he is a member of the Black Stars Management Committee. They are working, they must be remunerated but not to that extent.”
