The Black Stars of Ghana’s chances of progressing to the 2025 ACON in Morocco have reduced further after losing 2-0 to Sudan in Libya.
Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team conceded two quick goals in the 62nd minute and 65th minutes through Ahmed Mahmoud and Mohammed Abdel-Rahman respectively.
Ghana suffered two defensive breakdowns in the lead up to both goals with Alidu Seidu and Gideon Mensah involved in a mix up that led to Mahmoud running through on goal to finish off his initial move that came off the foot of the goal post after Mensah’s failed attempt to clear the ball off the goal line.
The Black Stars’ defensive issues popped up again as Mohammed Salisu got beaten by the faster Abdel-Rahman who finished past Lawrence Ati Zigi for Sudan’s seconds goal. Abdel-Rahman sprinted almost half the entire field to embrace Sudan’s Ghanaian head coach James Kwasi Appiah.

Sudan threatened in the first half on multiple occasions through Abdel-Rahman and Walieldin Khidir who missed big opportunities in the contest. Antoine Semenyo registered Ghana’s biggest chance when he connected to a Gideon Mensah cross that went close.
In the second half, Inaki Williams scored early but his goal was ruled off for offside before the defensive breakdowns led to Ghana conceding the goals and further damaging Ghana’s chances of qualifying to the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
Ghana stays in third place in Group F with just two points from four games while Sudan improve their point tally to seven points after the win. Group leaders Angola have nine points and take on bottom ranked Niger later today at 4 pm. A win for Angola qualifies the Palancas Negras to next year’s AFCON in Morocco.
