The President of the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA), Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko, has highlighted that the GUSA Games play a pivotal role in fostering the development of athletes who later rise to national prominence and serve as role models for future generations.

The 28th edition of the GUSA Games was officially launched yesterday at the University of Cape Coast, where the competition’s mascot and logo were also unveiled.

In his address, the president of Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) , Shiabu Tanko, commended university of cape coast (UCC) for its unwavering commitment to hosting this year’s event.

“A special commendation must go to the University of Cape Coast, your unwavering commitment to hosting and the exceptional sporting facilities you provide. A testament to your dedication to student sports.”
“It is clear that UCC understands the importance of cultivating an environment where our athletes can excel, feel inspired, and push boundaries. Yet, as we applaud the strides made, there remains room for growth.”

“I encourage further investments in these facilities, enhancing, refining, and updating wherever necessary to meet the highest standards of athletic excellence. Remember, these facilities are more than grounds for competition.”
“They are breeding grounds for ambitions, for natural athletes who go on to become national icons, champions, and most importantly, role models to future generations.”

Themed Repositioning University Sports for National Development, the event marks the beginning of an exciting journey towards the 2024 GUSA Games, scheduled to take place from January 5 to January 18, 2025.

Kwame Nkrumah University of science and technology(KNUST) hosted the 2022 edition of the GUSA games with university of education winneba(UEW) emerging as champions. They won 22 gold ,22 silver and 17 bronze medals
